Annual Base Salary $64,000.00

- A member in good standing with the Florida Bar
- Florida driver’s license in good standing - Periodic travel is required
- Successful completion of a Level 2 Criminal Background Screening and Due Diligence Process.
- Employment experience working for the State of Florida
Provide counsel for FDVA Leadership in all relevant areas of law, including executive functions delegated by agency head;
Develop subject matter expertise to support agency mission, including but not limited to: health care regulation, employment law, real property, procurement matters, applicability of federal and state laws and regulations;
Provide legal support, as requested, for Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame, Florida Veterans’ Foundation, Florida Is for Veterans, d/b/a Veterans Florida;
Prepare and litigate cases in administrative and judicial venues including PERC, EEOC, FCHR, AHCA, DCF, circuit and appeals court, collective bargaining units, mediation/arbitration, and settlements; provide outside counsel support, as needed;
Perform agency rulemaking processes under delegated legislative authority, including rules to support Veterans Preference;
Provide real time legal consults for internal agency clients through calls, e-mails, or meetings; refer external client for services;
review legal documents such as health care designations, powers of attorney, DNRs, etc.; provide training;
Support public records requests, medical records requests, subpoenas, requests for production, other discovery, as needed;
Process wage garnishment orders through HR/BoSP; file Answers of Garnishee and motions statewide;
Perform agency contract and Memorandum of Agreement drafting and reviews;
Perform biennial reviews of agency policies and procedures;
Consult and assist with real estate transactions pertaining to Homes, office spaces, easements, and permitting, as needed;
Review proposed legislation, if requested;
Perform administrative tasks to track and report legal services performed within GCO;
Supervise Paralegal Specialist assignments in Largo Headquarters; and
Perform all other duties requested and assigned by General Counsel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of State government procedures; advanced computer and legal research skills; and excellent writing and editing, verbal, multimedia, and other communications abilities.
Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):
The Florida Bar and continuing legal education coursework that is relevant to FDVA’s mission and vision;
Florida driver’s license in good standing.
