Job Description
The essential function of the position within the organization is to provide legal interpretation and support to court program offices and judicial commissions and committees and/or assist with continuing judicial education programs.
This position serves as legal counsel for the Office of Problem-Solving Courts located within the Office of the State Courts Administrator. Primary responsibilities include providing legal staff support to assigned Supreme Court committees and workgroups; responding to requests for legal information relating to problem-solving courts; reviewing and summarizing relevant case law pertaining to problem-solving courts; drafting legislative bill analyses, drafting and reviewing contracts; drafting legal memoranda and providing legal guidance on problem-solving courts in the areas of drug courts, mental health courts, and veterans courts. This position will ensure that close working relationships are established with circuit and county drug court and other problem-solving court personnel, including judges, coordinators, case managers, state attorneys, public defenders, treatment professionals, and other related stakeholders.
Education and Training Guidelines:
Juris doctorate degree and minimum of two years of legal experience Candidates with criminal law experience are encouraged to apply. Admission to and good standing with The Florida Bar.
Competencies:
Knowledge of drug court and other problem-solving court operations is highly desirable. Experience in criminal law matters, contract development and legislative bill analysis is preferred.
