Agency Overview: The Safe Center LI, Inc. (TSCLI) is the leading provider of services to victims of interpersonal violence in Nassau County. The agency provides comprehensive services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, and elder abuse. Program Description: The Safe Home is a trauma-informed, strength-based, and client centered domestic violence shelter. It is a 17-bed facility for individuals and families experiencing domestic violence and in need of safe housing, which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Additionally, The Safe Center’s 24-hour hotline is operated out of The Safe Home during non-business hours. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the Safe Home, the hotline worker provides advocacy, supportive services, crisis intervention, and provisions of daily needs.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide advocacy services for adult and child clients at the Safe Home
- Provides crisis intervention, advocacy, linkage with CADV resources, support, information, referral, and other services as needed to callers from 24hr hotline for victims of domestic violence and rape/ sexual assault
- Make outreach calls to victims in response to provided police reports
- Maintain complete and accurate records of client engagement
- Crisis intervention
- Conduct intake interviews
- Providing safety planning for client travel, use of technology, and other related matters
- Monitor daily activities of clients while in the house, as well as respond to phone and door
- Use of shelter’s fire and security system, conduct monthly fire drills
- Maintain logs daily, detailing distribution of funds, metro cards, etc.
- Daily entries in client database and log, detailing client engagement
- Distribute personal care, household, and baby related items to clients
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1 year relevant work experience which includes paid or volunteer work experience with victims of domestic violence and/or in the direct provision of human services and/ or work on an emergency hotline preferred
- Hotline experience preferred
- Residential and/or shelter experience preferred
REQUIREMENTS:
- Work out of other locations in cases of emergency and relocation of shelter clients is required
- Must remain on duty until coverage is found if the next person working is not able to come in
- Maintain a valid driver’s license
- Ability to use email, computer, fax machine
- Lifting and moving of household and client items.
- Must be vaccinated against COVID19
Hourly Rate: $20.87
Bi- Lingual Hourly Rate: $21.97
Available Weekly Shifts: ** You may apply for one or multiple shifts, not to exceed 20hrs **
Monday- 4pm -12am
Friday- 4pm-12am
Saturday- 4pm-12am
Sunday- 9am-5pm
