Job Description
Performs a variety of organizational and case monitoring functions and scheduling tasks. Prepares cases for mediations, provides information to litigants, and trains and assists new department personnel. Primary duties include scheduling and noticing small claims, county civil, family law and dependency cases, and maintaining data applicable to mediation success measures. Works under the direction of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Director with moderate discretion as to work processes and priorities.
Essential Duties:
Manage and prepare cases for mediation, including researching case histories; verifying court orders, verifying whether, or not subpoena or summons has been served; reviewing financial affidavits to determine fees; and tabbing pleadings, child support guidelines, correspondence and documentation for the mediator. Ensure cases comply with time standard imposed by the court.
Review court orders referring parties to mediation to determine nuances, availability of mediator, and space accommodations prior to scheduling mediations with parties; provide case status information, mediation procedures and statutes to litigants; respond to inquiries.
Prepare notice of hearings and related documents, including Outcome of Mediation.
Maintain daily, monthly, and yearly statistics regarding volume and types of cases handled by program.
Train and provide support to peers.
Monitor and review new rules and Administrative Orders that impact the mediation program, requiring procedural changes in each division of court served; identify technology implications related to implementation within each division served.
Education and Training Guidelines
Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, criminal justice, psychology, sociology or a closely related social science field and three years of professional administrative analytical related experience.
Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for two years of the experience.
Related experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year-basis.
