The Agency for Health Care Administration is Florida's chief health policy and planning entity. The Agency is responsible for administering the Florida Medicaid program, the licensure and regulation of nearly 50,000 health care facilities, and empowering consumers through health care transparency initiatives.
Under the direction of Agency Interim Secretary Jason Weida, the Agency is focused on advancing Governor DeSantis’ vision for Florida’s health care system to be the most cost-effective, transparent, and high-quality health care system in the nation. Current Agency initiatives include implementing Florida’s groundbreaking Canadian Prescription Drug Importation Program, overhauling Florida’s healthcare technological ecosystem, and increasing insight in the cost of health care services.

The Office of the General Counsel within the Agency for Health Care Administration has a full-time attorney vacancy. This position provides legal representation for the Agency's Licensure Program before the Division of Administrative Hearings and other forums pursuant to Chapter 408, Florida Statutes.
Under the supervision of the General Counsel and Chief Facilities Counsel, this position applies his or her legal expertise to handle litigation, to research federal and state facility regulation and licensure issues, to conduct legal discovery, and to prepare legal pleadings and briefs. The attorney must be able to assimilate and analyze a variety of legislation and legal concepts relating to facilities regulation and licensure issues.
Examples of Work Performed:
Handles administrative litigation before the Division of Administrative Hearings and the Agency throughout the State of Florida on regulation of health care facilities.
Assists with legal research in evaluating state statutes and preparation of legal opinions on questions relating to the licensure and regulation of various types of medical and long-term care facilities.
Prepares and drafts routine pleadings, briefs, agreements, and related legal documents pertaining to facilities regulation and licensure.
Provides legal counsel on behalf of the Agency on legal matters related to the licensure program; interprets state and federal legislation related to facilities regulation matters.
Performs legal research concerning the interpretation of Florida Statutes and the Florida Administrative Code on health care facilities regulation matters in question.
Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Attorney in good standing with the Florida Bar and two years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or in administrative or judicial hearings
