Your Specific Responsibilities:
The Florida Department of Health (Department) is seeking to hire an Other Personal Services (OPS) attorney for the Office of General Counsel, Transaction Practice Group. The Department generates approximately 60 procurements and 1370 contracts for an annual spend of approximately $565 million.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Providing legal advice and legal review for the Department on:
- Development and administration of competitive and non-competitive procurements of property, buildings, commodities and services;
- Assisting with preparing litigation documents related to bid protests before the Division of Administrative Hearings and appellate courts;
- Drafting and reviewing contracts that includes, but is not limited to, leases, purchase orders, formal contracts, memoranda of understanding or agreement; and,
- Drafting and reviewing amendments, renewals and terminations of existing agreements as identified above.
Interacting daily with programmatic personnel of the Department and provide input on solicitations and contracts.
Working closely with Contract Administration and Purchasing within the Department’s Bureau of General Services.
Performing other duties as required by the General Counsel, or the Deputy General Counsel.
Working before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency as directed. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with Chapters 215, 216, 286 and 287, Florida Statutes; ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients and staff; use correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, detail oriented; and excellent organizational skills.
